Frequently Asked Questions

Second Look

Pre-appeal case review.

Getting started / urgent

What is Second Look?

Second Look is a pre-appeal case review for Georgia court cases. You upload the judgment or order and your account of the case, and a licensed Georgia attorney gives you a written opinion on whether an appeal is worth pursuing, before you spend far more on one. It is a review, not an appeal: we do not file anything with the court as part of it.

Start now
How long do I have to appeal?

In most Georgia civil cases, a notice of appeal must be filed within 30 days after the judgment or order is entered. Some orders and some courts have different rules, and missing the deadline can end your right to appeal. If you are close to it, tell us when you start. Your emailed roadmap lists the key dates for your case, and the attorney confirms them.

How it works

What do I need to upload?

The judgment or order you are thinking of appealing, and a short written summary of what happened. Higher tiers also use the motions, briefs, and transcript if you have them. If you are missing something, say so and we will tell you what matters most.

How long does it take?

Quick Screen is typically 3 to 5 business days. The other tiers take longer because they cover more of the record, and the tier page gives the typical turnaround for each. You get an emailed roadmap right away.

How is AI used in the review?

Directly, and we'd rather be upfront about it than pretend otherwise: AI-assisted tools do the first pass — organizing the record and drafting a starting memo — in a fraction of the time that would otherwise take hours of billable work. Every draft is then reviewed, edited, and personally approved by a licensed attorney before it's ever sent to you. The tools change how fast you get an answer; they don't change who's accountable for it.

Reviews and pricing

Which review should I choose?

Quick Screen is the fast, high-level read when you just lost and want to know whether an appeal deserves a closer look. Standard Memo is the full pre-appeal memo when you are seriously weighing an appeal and need to know which issues are strong and whether they were preserved. Comprehensive Review is for cases with a lot at stake or that turn on what was said at a hearing or trial, tested against the actual record. Each tier page lists exactly what is and is not included.

Legal, privacy and conflicts

Does uploading documents create an attorney-client relationship?

No. An attorney-client relationship for the case review is formed only after you complete the conflict check and sign the limited-scope engagement agreement, before any document upload is enabled.

What if you have a conflict of interest?

We run a conflict check against the parties in your case before any documents are uploaded. If a conflict exists, we'll let you know and won't proceed with a review.

What happens to my documents?

Documents are uploaded to encrypted, access-controlled storage and are only used for your case review. They are not shared with third parties.

After your review

What if my case looks strong for appeal?

You can choose to engage us for full appellate representation. The review fee is credited toward that engagement.

What if my case looks weak?

We'll tell you plainly, along with the reasoning. Many litigants find real value in knowing that before spending far more on a full appeal.

Can you guarantee the result of an appeal?

No. No attorney honestly can. The review tells you how strong the issues look and how likely an appeal is to be worth it, and why. Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome.
